While my grandfather sprinkled his gold teeth, my father bought himlesf some new pare of jeans from Moscow. That golden  smile was not impressing anyone anymore, but if you go out with new brand jeans, that's says it all. This is where I found myself in the late 70's, My father's teenage years, when the Uzbek fashion mimics the West but still proud of its own culture. In this collection I combined the classic look of the raw jeans with the Uzbek silhouette and elements of the tradition kaftan robe and Ikat fabrics.

THE UZBEK GOLD RUSH

Sketches

Uzbek kaftan (Chapan or Joma) -  The kaftan was the most admired piece by the Uzbeks, on day it appears plain or with sample of stripes, on special occasions were worn rich kaftans with golden embroidery.

Western culture and music crossed lands and seas and reached the eastern world. Rock and roll Idols like the "Beatles" and "Led Zeppelin" were mostly admired by Uzbek youth and local musicians were considered obsolete. The western music culture also ifluenced the fashion among the uzbeks. In contrast, the west did not remain indifferent to the east and embraced the oriental colors and the ornaments. The 70's were the years of cultural fashion collision.
